Games next Tuesday at FilOil San Juan
5pm — Chery Tiggo vs PLDT
7pm — Marinerang Pilipina vs Generika-Ayala
Sta. Lucia flirted with disaster before surviving Marinerang Pilipina, 25-19, 21-25, 30-28, 25-20, in the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Seasoned spiker Royce Tubino caught fire while Canadian import Shainah Joseph and Filipino-American MJ Phillips shone to lead the Lady Realtors to their second straight win in this prestigious women’s club tourney bankrolled by Cocolife, Cocogen, Sogo, Eurotel, Sweet and Fit Stevia, Team Rebel Sports and Genius Sports.
Tubino fired 24 points while Joseph and Phillips chipped in 19 and 13 markers, respectively, for the Lady Realtors, who are considered as a heavy contender in this battle that also has Bizooku, Gerflor, Senoh, Asics, Mikasa and Mueller Sports as technical partners.
Joseph was elated with the outcome giving credit to her teammates who stepped up against a very competitive team like the Lady Skippers.
“Our team fought really hard. A lot of players stepped up. Royce stepped up and I’m so glad that she’s on our team.”
But Tubino, a former star for University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, was quick to deflect the credit insisting that it was a total team effort.
“I told myself that we have to finish this game on a good note. We have to work together a team and, luckily, we did more than that.”
“Hopefully we can continue on this winning streak. It’s still too early in the season but we will just have to prepare for what’s in front of us and not to look too far ahead of ourselves.”
Croatian reinforcement Hana Cutura dropped a game-high 29 points but her efforts went down the drain for Marinerang Pilipina which slid to 0-2.
