University of Tsukuba defeated Team Shine, 25-10, 25-16, 25-16, to stay unbeaten in the Philippine Superliga Super Cup at FilOil Flying V Centre yesterday.
Ami Yamashiro unleashed 17 points for the Japanese team, which will face the national women’s volleyball team today to end the three-day pocket tournament that serves as warm up for the 30th Southeast Asian Games.
Moeka Kinoe had 12 points for Tsukuba while Kurumi Takama and Syuri Kurata had eight markers apiece, for the match that lasted for only an hour and 12 minutes.
Tsukuba head coach Yasumu Nakanishi commended his team, which capitalized on their service and took advantage of their opponents’ reception.
“Our players did a better service today. And this could prepare us for tomorrow’s game facing the national team,” he said following their second match in this tourney that has Summit Hotel as official residence and Foton as official vehicle.
MJ Phillips had nine points for the Team Shine while Eli Soyud and Fritz Gallenero added four each.
