Note revised #PSLGrandPrix quarterfinals @FilOilSanJuan
7pm Foton vs F2 Logistics
4pm Generika-Ayala vs PLDT
Generika-Ayala hung tough down the stretch to eke out a thrilling 21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24 win over PLDT Home Fibr in the quarterfinals of the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix last night at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Import Kseniya Kocyigit delivered the crucial blows for the Lifesavers, who forged a sudden-death game for a chance to advance to the semifinals of this prestigious women’s club tourney backed by Asics, Mueller, Mikasa, Senoh, Team Rebel Sports, Bizooku, UCPB Gen, Cocolife, Hotel Sogo and Data Project.
The prized Azerbaijani delivered the quick attack that forced a deuce before skipper Angeli Araneta nailed back-to-back aces to seal the victory in this battle that also has ESPN5 and 5Plus as broadcast partners.
Thai import Kanjana Kuthaisong led the charge with 17 points while Araneta put up 10 attacks and four aces for a 14-hit effort for Generika-Ayala, which finished the double-round classification phase at the sixth spot.
Kocyigit chipped in 13 markers while Fiola Ceballos had 11 points.
“Since our two classification matches against PLDT ended up in five sets, our mindset is just to double the effort and luckily we got the breaks of the game,” said Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses, whose wards would face the winner between F2 Logistics and Foton in the best-of-three semifinals.
The Cargo Movers and the Tornadoes will dispute the semis berth on Thursday.
Import Kendra Dahlke had 23 points while her partner Grace Lazard scored 15 points for the Power Hitters, who also drew impressive numbers from Aiko Urdas and Gretchel Soltones, but surrendered to the strong service game of the Lifesavers down the stretch.
