SMART vs Petron; Sta Lucia vs Cocolife at FilOil San Juan

After barging into the win column, Cocolife seeks to keep its streak going when it battles Sta. Lucia Realty in the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix Thursday March 1 at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Action starts at 7 pm with the Asset Managers looking for a fitting follow up to their impressive straight-set conquest of rookie team Smart in their previous match in this prestigious club tourney bankrolled by Isuzu and UCPB Gen with ESPN5 as official broadcast partner.

The Giga Hitters will try to bounce back from that setback when they clash with unbeaten Petron in the 4:15 pm appetizer of this battle that also has Mikasa, Mueller, Senoh, Grand Sport and LGR as technical sponsors.

With an entirely new core led by Serbian coach Moro Branislav and imports Sara Klisura and Taylor Milton with new recruit Honey Royse Tubino adding scoring punches, the Asset Managers struggled early on as they succumbed to Cignal and F2 Logistics in their first two outings.

But that pair of setbacks is now a thing of the past as Cocolife survived a powerful 33-point performance from former Cuban national team member Gyselle Silva en route to a 25-20, 25-22, 25-13 victory over Smart Tuesday at the Muntinlupa Sports Center in Muntinlupa City.

Branislav was impressed by their tough net defense but stressed that they still remain a work in progress.

“This is true, I’m not kidding: My team is not yet ready at the moment,” said Branislav, who guided Foton to the Grand Prix crown two years ago.

“We still have a lot to work on and improve. This moment we’re not yet coming in 100 percent – not yet. We still have to train hard to get where we want to be.”

Sta. Lucia, however, will not be an easy foe as it is coming off an inspiring five-set win over Generika-Ayala last week, 21-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-15, 15-7.

Ukrainian Bohdana Anisova and Canadians Marisa Field and Kristen Moncks are tipped to be in fighting form as well as local stars MJ Philips, Pam Lastimosa, Rialen Sante with Rubie de Leon and Michelle Laborte providing veteran presence.
