“In behalf of the university, I’d like to extend my gratitude to PSL president Ramon Suzara and everyone who prepare for this wonderful and successful event. We are so honored to be part of this tournament.”
Kobe Shinwa team captain Chichiro Fujiwara said they will bring their A-game against Foton, Cignal and Petron to boost their preparation in their collegiate league.
“We expect that we can learn a lot from these top three teams,” said Fujiwara during the press briefing yesterday. “With that, I think we can fight well in our upcoming college tournament in Japan this April. We hope to use this experience to win the title in our college league.”
“Aside from treating fans to an elite level of competition, the participation of Est Cola will also give our local coaches and players a taste of competing against a topnotch team. This doesn’t only increase the level of competition, but also helps Philippine volleyball in general,” said PSL president Ramon “Tats” Suzara, a ranking executive of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB).
“We need more of this kind of competition. We have to expose our players to top-flight tourneys if we seriously want to regain our lofty status in the region.”
With Petron and idle Cignal safely in the final round, the pressure is now on Generika-Ayala and Foton as they are desperate for a victory that would send them to the next round of this tourney that also has UCPB Gen as official insurance provider and Gold’s Gym as official fitness partner.
Whoever wins will make it to the final round but if both the Lifesavers and the Tornadoes emerge with similar fates, their ranking will be determined based on their accumulated points and won sets.
