Foton Recovers From Opening Loss With Win Against New San Jose Builders

Foton recovered from its opening day loss as the Toplanders outlasted New San Jose Builders, 25-16, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17.

Former Arellano standout Danna Henson came through with 12 points for the Toplander while Samantha Dawson and Patty Orendain chipped in 12 and 11 markers respectively to make up for their loss to returning powerhouse RC Cola Army, 17-25, 9-25, 22-25, on Thursday.

“Problema kasi namin ang blending kasi ilang days pa lang kami naku-kumpleto, mga five days pa lang,” said Foton assistant coach Ronald Dulay. “Konting oras pa gaganda pa (ang takbo ng team).”
Dulay, however, stressed that they lacked the same intensity they have in the first set as they let the Victorias dominate in the second set.

“Nawalan kami ng receive tapos ‘yung (kalaban) kinargahan ang service nila, ‘di rin kami maka-atake tapos ‘yung service namin ang hina buti sa third set kinargahan na namin ang service namin,” he said.

Foton improved to the second spot tied with F2 Logistics (1-1).

Jamela Suyat led the Victorias with 16 points, while Coleen Bravo and Lourdes Clemente added 13 and 11 markers, respectively. New San Jose Builders remained winless in two outings.
