She can score with full might, but Cha Cruz of Shopinas showed that providing leadership and stability on the floor is far more impressive than what actually reflects on the stat sheet.
Shortly after suffering a heart-breaking five-set loss to Philips Gold, the 27-year old Cruz powered the Lady Clickers to a pair of victories that improved their chances of clinching one of the two semifinal berths in the ongoing 2015 Philippine Superliga (PSL) women’s volleyball tournament All Filipino Conference.
With that, the PSL Press Corps decided to honor her as its third Spurway-PSL Player of the Week.
A full-time English teacher in an international school, Cruz spearheaded the Lady Clickers with 15 kills and a pair of service aces for a total of 18 points in Shopinas’ 25-23, 25-20, 25-16 conquest of Mane ‘N Tail Lady last week.
After that, she delivered 10 kills and three blocks to finish with 15 points while providing leadership to help the Lady Clickers capture a 23-25, 25-27, 25-17, 19-25 victory over Cignal over the weekend.
“I am so happy for the recognition,” said the charming 21-year old from De La Salle University who was recently appointed as the league’s new ambassador shortly after receiving the weekly honor handed out by reporters covering the league through the support of Spurway Enterprise and organizing Sports Core.
“It shows na naipapakita ko ang aking best in every game, not just in scoring but also in other aspects.”
Even Shopinas coach Ramil de Jesus has nothing but praises for his team captain.
“She (Cha) knows her responsibility,” de Jesus said. “I know she still has a lot to give for the team pero gusto niya iyong ma-involve lahat ng teammates niya.”
In winning her first Spurway-PSL Player of the Week plum, Cruz edged her good friends Michelle Gumabao and Melissa Gohing of Philips Gold as well as Dindin Manabat and Aby Marano of
