“The road to a better finish gets tougher from here,” said Petron coach George Pascua, who is using this tournament as part of the Blaze Spikers’ preparation for the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix which starts on Oct. 10 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan, Laguna.
“The Chinese were too tall, too strong for us to handle. We may have lost the game, but it was a good experience for us. Now, our mission is to win in the quarterfinals and classification phase to somehow come up with a better finish.”
“I am truly honored to be chosen as team captain,” said Daquis. “I don’t think there will be any adjustments because most of them have been my teammates before. The chemistry is already there, so we just have to further enhance it. I want them to look at me not just as a teammate but as a big sister inside and outside the court.”
PSL All-Star coach George Pascua said Daquis’ skills, leadership and experience were the factors that he considered in tapping her to be the team captain.
She will be assisted by another spiker in Cha Cruz of F2 Logistics who will be playing her first international tournament.
