F2 Logistics Move on to Semis; Iriga Take Eighth Place

F2 Logistics flaunted its dominance as it crushed newcomer Iriga City, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17, in the quarterfinals of the Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix yesterday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

With imports Kennedy Bryan and Maria Jose Perez spewing fire, the Cargo Movers were simply impressive as they clobbered the Lady Oragons in just 71 minutes of action in this prestigious tournament bankrolled by Mikasa, Grand Sport, Senoh, Mueller, Island Rose, Cloudfone and UCPB Gen.

The victory sent F2 Logistics to the sudden-death semifinals where they will face the survivor in the quarterfinal battle between Cignal and Cocolife.

F2 Logistics Ramil de Jesus admitted that he instructed his wards to go hard on the Lady Oragons not only to sharpen their game, but also to boost their morale going into the next round.

“We’re building confidence going into the semis,” said de Jesus, adding that they have to be careful against either the HD Spikers or the Asset Managers in the next round that fires off this Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“We want to be at our best going into the semifinals. Cignal and Cocolife are also tough. You simply can’t just count them out. We’re sure they also made their respective adjustments for the semis.”

Bryan starred with 12 kills and an ace for 14 points while Perez had 12 markers for the Cargo Movers, who gained the upper hand at the attack zone, 39-32, and net defense, 5-1.

Kianna Dy also had a stellar performance with nine points while Majoy Baron chipped in six markers as she enters the crucial stretch of her last conference before resuming her collegiate career with De La Salle University in the UAAP.

But the victory shouldn’t be credited solely to the Cargo Movers’ superior firepower.

With the Lady Oragons breathing down their neck, 6-8, Bryan, Baron and Aby Maraño connived with five consecutive hits to widen the gap, 13-6. Then, it was downhill from there for the Lady Oragons as they fell into a maze of errors for a 23-14 count.

“We also played against them last week,” said de Jesus, noting that Iriga City surrendered a total of 27 points off turnovers. “So we already have an idea on how to beat them. We just repeated what we did in our first meeting.”

Serbian reinforcement Tamara Kmezic notched 15 points while Japanese spiker Saama Miyagawa had 10 hits for the Lady Oragons who kissed the tournament goodbye at eighth place after finishing the eliminations with a 2-6 win-loss mark.
