The Generika-Philippine Army Troopers continue their domination of the women’s division of the Philippine SuperLiga as they became champions of the 2014 All Filipino Conference by beating the RC Cola-Philippine Air Force Raiders in straight sets, 25-22, 25-19, 25-16, on July 26 at the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Troopers showed their veteran composure, while the Raiders exhibited their nerves. RC Cola-Air Force found its floor defense wanting in the winner-take-all match as Generika-Army picked its spots on the floor with relative ease.
“Nagbunga lahat ng paghihirap namin sa training,” said three-time PSL champion coach Rico de Guzman as his squad has won all of the championships in the women’s division so far.
Mary Jean Balse had a vintage performance with 16 points, three of those coming from blocks and three from service aces. Rachel Ann Daquis and Nerissa Bautista had nine markers apiece.
Joy Cases and Judy Ann Caballejo carried the fort for the Raiders with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Ageless setter Tina Salak was the MVP of the women’s division with Balse taking home the second best middle blocker award. Cases (second best outside spiker) and Rhea Dimaculangan (best setter) received individual awards as well.
Meanwhile, PLDT players Suzanne Roces and Lizlee Pantone won the best opposite spiker and best libero accolades. Stephanie Mercado was declared the first best outside spiker and Aby Marano was first best middle blocker. (JP Abcede)
